Dr. Lower鈥檚 latest book,聽, investigates a single photograph鈥攁 rare 鈥渁ction shot鈥 documenting the horrific final moment of a family鈥檚 murder in Ukraine. Through years of forensic and archival research, Lower sought to uncover the identities of the photographed and in the process recovered new details about the Nazis鈥 Holocaust by Bullets in eastern Europe, the role of the family unit in Nazi ideology, and a rare case of rescue and postwar justice.
奥别苍诲测听尝辞飞别谤聽is the John K. Roth Professor聽of聽History at Claremont McKenna College. She chairs聽the聽Academic聽Committee聽
and has published several books on the Holocaust in Ukraine including聽Nazi Empire-Building and the Holocaust in Ukraine聽(2005),聽and聽co- editor聽(with Ray Brandon)聽of聽Shoah in Ukraine: History, Testimony, Memorialization (2008). Her work on聽gender and the Holocaust,聽Hitler’s Furies: German Women in the Nazi Killing Fields聽(2013) was a finalist for the National Book Award and has been translated into 23 languages. Lower’s聽The聽Ravine: A Family, A Photograph, A Holocaust Massacre Revealed聽(2021) received the National Jewish Book Award in the Holocaust category and was shortlisted for the Wingate聽Prize,聽 and longlisted for a PEN.聽Lower just co-authored with Jonathan Petropoulos,聽Himmler鈥檚 Last Days: The End of Nazi Terror, appearing in 2027 with Mariner Books.
